PGL to stage Schengen-area event without an open qualifier

PGL has detailed the route into its fifth top-tier event of 2027: there will be no open qualifier, while visa readiness is part of the eligibility rules.

Twenty-two ranking-based invitations

From September 2 to 12, 2027, the Schengen area will host PGL CS2 #5, an offline competition for 16 teams. Fourteen rosters will receive direct main-event invitations from the Global Valve Regional Standings published on May 3, 2027. Eight more teams will be invited from the Europe VRS to an online closed qualifier on May 24–27, with its two winners completing the main-event field. Across both stages, that means 22 VRS invitations, no open qualifier and no wildcard places.

Payments and the visa condition

PGL describes $1.3 million in combined rewards. The placement-based $1 million consists of two equal $500,000 allocations—one for prize money and the other for Club Share—while a separate $300,000 VRS Invite Bonus pool is reserved for the five highest-ranked eligible teams that accept. It is not a single $1.3 million prize pool. By the visa cutoff, each team must have valid travel documents for three or more members of its reference lineup; otherwise its place passes to the next eligible side. PGL classifies that outcome as a withdrawal, which makes the roster ineligible for a direct VRS invitation to the next event in the organizer’s invitation sequence.
