How the Howl became Contraband
The Howl was uploaded to the Steam Workshop in March 2014 and arrived as a Covert skin in the Huntsman Weapon Case, released in May 2014. In June 2014 it turned out that the wolf artwork had been copied from a piece an artist had posted on DeviantArt. On June 11, 2014 Valve updated the case: the Howl and five other skins by one of its authors were removed, and six new skins took their places. M4A4 | Desert-Strike filled the Howl's Covert slot.
The Howl was redrawn and moved from Covert to a new rarity, Contraband. Since then it doesn't drop from any case and can't come out of a trade-up contract, so existing copies only change hands through trades.
Float and exteriors
The range is 0–0.40. That leaves only a very thin Well‑Worn band, from 0.38 to 0.40. Battle‑Scarred would need a float above 0.45, which this skin can't have.
The look
The redrawn wolf's head sits on the magazine well and the side of the receiver in orange and red, with flame-like red strokes along the handguard, magazine and stock over a dark base, a palette that puts the Howl in the red skins selection.
