FACEIT asks players to decide the future of knife rounds

FACEIT has opened a vote between keeping the knife round and assigning starting sides at random.

FACEIT is asking users to decide how matches on the platform should begin. Under the first option, the current format remains: a knife round determines which team may choose between a T-side or CT-side start. The alternative skips that stage and allocates the two opening sides by chance. Voting remains open until November 12.

When the test begins

The winning option has not been declared a permanent rule in advance. FACEIT will introduce it as a test on December 9, alongside the start of Season 10. This is therefore a vote on which format to trial, not confirmation that knife rounds will be removed. The mechanic’s longer-term future will depend on the vote and the Season 10 test.

Which matches will stay unchanged

The vote applies to matches on the FACEIT platform but does not extend to ESEA Leagues, which will retain the standard knife round. If random selection wins for regular matchmaking, teams will no longer be able to earn the right to choose their preferred starting side through a separate in-game contest. The pre-pistol process would become shorter, while side allocation would no longer depend on a knife duel.
